Songs of the week

1. "Love You Like Before" by 18 Carat Affair
Runtime: 2 Minutes 48 secs
Rating: 9/10
Randomly popped up on Apple Music, haven't done a deep dive into this artist's discography, but left a lasting first impression. As soon as the track plays, you are taken back to the 1980s dance scene!

2. "Summer Depression" by girl in red
Runtime: 2 Minutes 32 secs
Rating: 10/10
Became a fan back in the fall of 2018 when I began my senior year of high school and would just play music in my headphones all day. Sounds similar to the bedroom pop that was emerging during that time, similar to early Rex Orange County, Beabadoobee, and Clairo. Discography is substantial, and her latest album was released in 2024.

3. "Green Eyes" Erykah Badu
Runtime: 10 Minutes 5 secs
Rating: 10/10
Worth. Every. Minute. Erykah Badu delivers one of the most gut-punching and soulful break-up songs ever. I discovered this song during a late night on TikTok, watching live music performances. Green eyes represent the feeling of jealousy, Badu claims it stems from eating vegtables but the tone of the song and lyrics show the real reason for her green eyes.
